Testing a 2.3-2.4 upgraded with propellers, lasers, and battery packs. Makes a newfangled friend in the tank!

These modification significantly improve the operational longevity of these versions. They are not hard to do and are inexpensive. Although not advanced as the latest units. This one is competitive and useful at depths of up to about 75 ft. It has been a great learning experience working here at HQ and hope to have my second one(2.6x) built soon.If you have one of these versions and require assistance, please contact me! I'd love to help.See More

Call for OpenROV enthusiasts in the Bay Area!

Colleagues,I am currently residing in the Bay area with the hopes of connecting with other ROV enthusiasts and performing experiments/embarking on missions etc.  I am staying on several boats in Sausalito currently.  I have SCUBA equipment, Gopro, and a functional ROV for exploration.  I am thinking of exploring the Belvedere Lagoon as it is a close, freshwater area that has given me permission to dive.  However I am up for any expeditions/experiments that may be happening on the west coast, or…See More

ROV 236 Operational!

It's Alive!!Will be posting some videos in the adventures section and on open explorer soon.  Will leave you with my topside tether adapter that I repurposed from an empty beaglebone box.  This was no feat of engineering, and has probably been done by someone else...but it makes me laugh!Wanted to thank Eric, David, Walt, Colin, the other David, and everyone else that put up with me during this process! If anyone requires assistance getting their bot up and running, please let me know.  I'd be…See More

"Yeah, it's going to be fun to see what comes about with Open Explorer. Funny story, thanks for that. A high tensile strength fishing line along the tether should help prevent another unplanned swim, lol. Also, proof that slightly positive…"

OpenROV Lottery

Had an idea during the dev call that was a little too goofy so I thought I would share here to see if there is interest. As more and more ROVs are built and in the water, things are going to start happening, so I thought it would be fun to award prizes for the "first" ROV serial # to accomplish certain things. For example:(feel free to add to these)

1. The first ROV to get chomped by a shark or attacked by some other creature.

2. First To discover actual gold

3. First dead… Continue
